I stumbled upon this quote today and it pretty much sums me up, although my latest thing wasn’t keys in the fridge, but milk in a sugar canister whilst visiting a school as part of my placement. I seem to like trying to put milk places it really shouldn’t go as the time before that it was into the washing machine instead of the fabric softener, thankfully on that occasion I noticed just as I was about to pour it in (the sugar canister wasn’t so lucky).
My writing journey seems to be a bit like this, most days I really don’t know where I am going with things, the procrastination, the randomness of my thoughts, flitting from one story to the next I wonder how on Earth I get anything done at all. I am still putting off the dreaded editing, but I did do two whole pages worth whilst I was away visiting so it is getting there…just very..very..slowly.
This week rather than editing my one novel I find my attention turning back to my great fantasy epic that I have begun writing, I feel like Bob is shouting at me louder to get on with that instead…well who can blame him? Creating worlds, creatures, religions etc is much more exciting than “Do I need a full stop here?” Or, much like the milk in the washing machine…“Does this paragraph really need a description of feelings in the middle of an epic battle for survival?” Probably not, I think my characters would have much more pressing things to concern them.
My final year at Uni begins tomorrow and I am sure I will have even more things going on, more demands for my time than ever before, but one thing is certain, something has definitely changed and Bob will not stay quiet anymore and I am listening more intently. So tomorrow Bob and I will be heading into Uni early so I can spend some time in the library actually editing before class starts, I just hope that I have more productive, amazing days than ones involving milk being deposited in all the wrong places.
