Memories Are Made Of This

What is this? This life? This moment? This experience? Not all memories are good, but then again they aren’t all bad ones either. Memories shape us just as much as anything else in our lives.
You may have seen the throw back photos happening on social media this week. Now tell me that seeing old photos of your friends and loved ones and even ones of yourself did not bring a smile to your face? It might be a smile of embarrassment over how terrible/hilarious you think you looked but back then it did not matter. What people think of you now does not matter, it’s how you feel that matters most. Tell me when you saw those photos you weren’t transported back to your childhood to memories either good or bad ones that shaped the person you are today.
That is what matters those memories made you, you. Hold onto them. Without them there would be someone else stood where you are now, maybe a little bit shyer, a bit more awkward, maybe a more confident version of you. Maybe a version of you that is too self centred because they have never had something happen that has shaken them to their core, perhaps never been responsible for someone else’s fate.
Don’t be ashamed of the wrinkles, the grey hairs, everyone ages but every wrinkle is a memory, a sign that you have lived, you have learned. Don’t be ashamed of the scars, be it from surgery, an accident or maybe you just bumped your head as a kid and it never really healed, wear them with pride. They are all imprints of memories from your life that have changed you, for better or for worse but they are a part of you and never be ashamed, afraid to be you, to be different. If we were all the same, life would be boring. Who wants to live in a world full of clones?
So embrace those imperfections, look at those old photos with a smile because without them you are not the person you are today.
