Decisions, Dilemmas and Conundrums

My apologies for a delay in writing this, the curse of having a migraine interrupting my life again but I am less foggy minded today.
I love the image I have uploaded (now that I have worked out how to do it!) It has become a philosophy for my own life as well as my writing. The only dilemma for me is knowing the right moment to alter the course of the story, be it my life story or any other I am currently a part of.
So now that I have this power to say “This is not working”, or “I am not happy with this and I am going to change it” Now what? and that is where I get stuck.
My life story is finally on the right path I believe and I am giving my writing more of a focus than ever before, but this is leading to new dilemmas and conundrums. Writing dilemmas are at the forefront of my mind at present. As many of you might know I am attempting to rewrite a novel I wrote as a teenager which I admit is going very, very slowly. If I likened this to watching paint dry. You would still be applying the final brush stroke and admiring your handiwork. Yes it is THAT slow. My current dilemma centers around location. The original was set a little bit on Earth and a bit in space, so mainly science fiction in origin but now I am a self declared fantasy writer I am debating on whether or not to twist this and have the setting where my new work is based. Same world with perhaps some new story arc explaining..well explaining why you no longer need any kind of space craft to get there. (See I am being good.. no spoilers) This solves a few problems, namely I don’t have to come up with details or flesh out the old world and can focus my energies on my new one, but I will need to explain some things. But here is my dilemma, should I do this? Is this just me being lazy? (probably) Perhaps I should keep the existing worlds separate so if I feel like dabbling (<<ooh I like this word) in science fiction again I can do so. This would mean creating more work for myself and let’s face it, its not going that quickly at the moment and more than likely extend my original plan for the publication of said novel which will annoy me no end.
So here is my dilemma, I have the power to say this is not how the story is even going to begin let alone end but the question is do I really want to alter it’s course? Anyone got any handy suggestions??
