Contemplating Klingons

I spent a large part of the beginning of this week baking, cooking and generally making things up as I went along in the hope that it would turn out OK. I am pleased to say that everything went according to plan, although my scones could have done with being a bit bigger!
This got me thinking about what the characters in my books would eat. Sometimes it is the little things that we get stuck on, after key points like names and social structures and even religion have been resolved (not that all those questions have been answered in my head). My mind has turned to food. It started after I had a Lord of the Rings marathon and the orcs were discussing eating the hobbits and it kind of snowballed from there.
So instantly I ended up contemplating Klingons (like you do) and their delicacies such as Gagh the serpent worms that are best served half starved to death but still wriggling and what sort of foods would my characters eat? Would they eat something similar or eat what we would consider everyday normal food?
There is so much to consider with this fantasy writing! Different races will probably eat different things, one race may even look on in absolute horror whilst another one devours something they would normally consider to be a pet and not for human consumption and vice versa. My mind is a whir with different things at the moment but not a lot is getting put onto paper. The research is going on in my head and now my stomach is grumbling so I had better sort that out.. purely in the name of good research of course!
