An Inspirational Journey

It is surprising sometimes where I get inspiration from. It might be a random dream giving me ideas or perhaps an article or phrase I’ve heard somewhere that instantly pops a new character into my head. In the latter case it might be a strange mannerism or saying that I can hear them uttering and then the rest of their personality grows from there.

Today I was driving to my mums and another one popped in there. The only dilemma with ideas coming into your head when driving is you can’t write them down until you either pull over (very difficult if you are on a motorway) or until you reach your destination (by which point with my brain I tend to have forgotten what it was!)

I need a car like Kit in Knightrider, one that can take down my ideas when I think of them. When I was a kid such was my love of Kit I used to walk around talking to my watch, oh to be young again with that imagination of mine. Thankfully in the absence of my own Kit,I actually retained this information today so was able to scribble some ideas down for me to play about with later.

Observation is a vital tool for a writer, you never know what wonderful things you can glean from everyday life and where that information will take your own characters or indeed yourself. So take the time to really listen to those around you, take note of the quirky sounding villages you might see on road signs, you might learn a lot more than you think.

I may have some internet access issues this week so my posts might be a bit sporadic until next weekend.  But I will post a poem then to make up for it xx
